Jack in the Green

What a lovely day it was on the 3 May. I went, with my husband, daughter and step children, to Hastings for the day. On arrival it was really busy, I just thought it was because of the gorgeous weather but later discovered it was all down to “Jack in the Green”. Continue reading Jack in the Green

Dear Editor

What a outstanding display in the Old Town for Jack in the Green. The shops really made an effort with the embellishments, there was greenery and ribbons throughout the area. It went really well with the Morris Dancers. Praise for the Old Town. What a shame that some of the day was spoiled by the power cut.

When the reorganisation of local government took place in 1974 Rye lost not only power over its own affairs but most of its land and property as well. Continue reading A Better Way For Rye

Cycling the Rye Harbour Tramway

by Peter Etherden

Despite the assurances in the October 2005 issue of Rye’s Own that all was well in this best of all possible (Bexhill and Lewes administered) worlds, permit me to express my continued scepticism that a cycle path will be constructed between Rye and Rye Harbour by the end of March 2006 or indeed in any foreseeable future. Rother Condemned by Rye Representatives

In an amazing report to Rye Town Council Rye District Councillor Sam Souster claimed that Rother District Council was an “undemocratic body seemingly incapable of managing its responsibilities in Rye in a satisfactory manner”.
