What a outstanding display in the Old Town for Jack in the Green. The shops really made an effort with the embellishments, there was greenery and ribbons throughout the area. It went really well with the Morris Dancers. Praise for the Old Town. What a shame that some of the day was spoiled by the power cut.

Rye has had to repel many attempts on its Freedom. One good instance is the many assaults by our then French foes on the Town over the centuries. Then we were able to strike back and bloody their noses for them. If something was taken from us against our will we would just take it back, just as the men of Winchelsea and Rye did when the French stole our Church Bells. Even Hitler could not bring the Town to its knees; it rose like a Phoenix from the ashes.

In an amazing report to Rye Town Council Rye District Councillor Sam Souster claimed that Rother District Council was an “undemocratic body seemingly incapable of managing its responsibilities in Rye in a satisfactory manner”.
