St Leonards man sentenced for drugs and firearms offences.

St Leonards man has been sentenced to more than ten years imprisonment for drugs and firearms offences.

Carlton Meldrum, 23, of The Ridge, St Leonards, was sentenced to seven years for possessing heroin with intent to supply when he appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court in London on 30 March having previously pleaded guilty. This followed his arrest on 27 September last year when he was arrested with another man in a car in Ilford, East London. Several recent incidents in Bexhill and Hastings in which a man carrying some sort of pistol has robbed or tried to rob victims are being investigated by police.

Rye in The Fifties

The town of Rye in the fifties was a hive of activity and no one saw the changes that loomed on the distant horizon. Then all England was starting to come together after the war and things were returning to normal. Everyone that wanted a job was able to find one in Rye. Everything that the tradesman or housewife needed was accessible in one or other of the shops and little needed to be transported from afar.
