Katy Alexander joined the Rye Wheelers towards the end of the 2004 racing season. Her efforts that year cut Roma Page’s Ladies “10” record by 51 seconds to 30-02. She also established a Ladies “15” record of 46-31 in the last event of the year. Continue reading Katy Alexander
Back in 1965, as Bonfire Night approached, a new magazine appeared in the newsagents of the town. “Rye’s Own” was born. Volume 1, Number 1 it read on the cover, the price was two shillings (10p). Rodney Booth, now manager at Skinner’s Motors, was among the Bonfire Boys featured on the cover at their secret hideaway where the torches were made to light the procession on the great night. Four years on and every single one of them could have been written yesterday. Some of the issues are slightly different but the results are always the same. Rye loses out every time. In an amazing report to Rye Town Council Rye District Councillor Sam Souster claimed that Rother District Council was an “undemocratic body seemingly incapable of managing its responsibilities in Rye in a satisfactory manner”.
