Sun shines on the Lions Raft Race and Fete

This year, despite the dubious weather forecast, the sun shone on a record crowd at the Annual Rye Raft Race and Fete organised by Rye and District Lions Club. This was the 34th Race organised by the Lions who usually expect some 5,000 members of the public to attend. However, this year the numbers were so great that they found it impossible to estimate how many turned up for the event, but many, many more than ever before. Lunch With the Lions

More than 80 senior citizens from Rye and nearby villages enjoyed a Sunday lunch by courtesy of Rye & District Lions Club. The lunch was laid on at Rye Community Centre and all seniors that required transport were collected by Rye Community Transport and Lion Club members cars and returned home at the end of the afternoon. Lions Aid Air Ambulance

Following the launch of the Lions Clubs Air Ambulance Night Flying Appeal, Rye and District Lions have made a further donation to the Air Ambulance of £500. Their total contribution over the last three years is £1,250. In presenting the cheque to members of one of the specialist teams, Malcolm McDonough, Rye Lions President, said “This is a vital service for all in the South East and any of us could have our lives saved by the Air Ambulance in an emergency”. Lions Aid Rye Playgroup

At their existing premises in Ferry Road, Rye Pre-school Playgroup at present take children from 2 to 5 years old from 8am to 5pm 50 weeks of the year. Lions Support Rye Community Transport

Rye and District Lions Club have made a donation to Rye and District Community Transport for the third year running. Lunch With The Lions

A free lunch provided by Rye and District Lions was enjoyed by 97 senior citizens on Sunday. The seniors were collected by Rye Community buses and Lions’ cars and were greeted at the Community Centre with a welcoming drink before sitting down to full Sunday roast lunch with wine, then pudding and coffee and mints.
