The Simple Things In Life Are Best

By Tony May

Having been left some money by my Nan and with plenty of operational and space problems to deal with on my existing machine, I took the plunge recently and invested in a new laptop. Now, I am as technophobic as they come and so, on the advice of friends, have always stuck to Mac computers. I last bought a Mac in 2009 and have used it virtually every day since and sometimes for 4 or 5 hours a day. Continue reading The Simple Things In Life Are Best

Robert Vincent – A True Ryer

A TRUE RYER

No man is more deserving of the title ‘True Ryer’ than Robert Vincent, who died at the Conquest Hospital on Saturday 13 October 2012.

Robert was know to almost every soul who lives in the town. His own particular brand of humour seem to make everyone smile.

He was born in Rye, went to school in Rye, played football for Rye, worked in Rye and lived in Rye for his entire lifetime. The eulogy, read at Robert’s funeral by son Continue reading Robert Vincent – A True Ryer

Great Night Despite the Rain

By Jim Hollands

Thanks to Pat and the Rye Bonfire Society for inviting me to light this year’s  fire, it was an amazing experience. Thanks too to Robertsbridge Centurions for getting me safely from Landgate to the Bonfire site, a journey I shall always remember.

Photographs From A Great Night’s Entertainment

There is no greater night of the year in Rye and so it has been down the ages.

Rye Bonfire Society put on a fantastic show every year and it is a free show that all the family can enjoy. The Boys (and Girls) work hard all year round raising cash to produce the colourful spectacle that people from all over the World come to see.

The important thing is ALL the money collected in the boxes and buckets goes to help local charities. So please be generous on the night. Give the kids plenty of pennies to drop in the boxes, give the good lady some shiny pound coins and, I have been informed, a five pound note slips through the slot easily. £10 have been known but a £50 would be a first I think.

Have a great night, wrap up well and stay warm.

Enjoy these 80 pictures from 2006 – They can be enlarged. Continue reading Rye Bonfire 2006
