Rye’s Great Annual Events That Still Draw The Crowds

There has been a lot of talk recently on reviving many of the old annual events staged in Rye but which, over the years, have fallen by the wayside.

Rye Sports Day, Rye Medieval Festival, Miss Rye, The Raft Race and Rye in Bloom to name just a few. It is hoped the meeting on Wednesday 9 February will be the start of getting at least two of these old classics back on the Rye Programme. During a packed programme of events between 15th and 30th September, the 41st annual Rye Arts Festival is excited to be using three new venues in Rye this year – Tilling Green Community Centre; the Fletcher Centre in Lion Street; and St Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Watchbell Street. Festival Triumph

What a wonderful Rye Festival. Congratulations to all those involved with this year’s great event. More visitors in the town especially to enjoy what has become one of the best events of its kind in Europe. Sell out events were the order of the day.

There was something for everybody and the children were prominent in the success of many events, especially the Rye Dance Centre show at the Thomas Peacocke where a packed hall was enthralled by the standard of dancing and singing. Continue reading Town Crier October 2004
