Officers have recovered items they believed to have been stolen during a number of burglaries across Sussex. The haul, which includes various items of jewellery and antiques, was discovered by police when they stopped three men back in March.

Rye Man Sent to Prison

Rye man activates suspended jail sentence for drugs offences

A Rye man has been jailed after activating a suspended prison sentence imposed for drugs offences.

Charlie Banks, 18, a landscape gardener of Springfield Drive, Rye, was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, after a drugs warrant was executed at his home in July 2016. Phones, scales, bags and controlled drugs of class A and class B were seized.

He appeared at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on March 8 where he pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and possession with intent to supply cannabis. He was also ordered to carry out 165 hours of unpaid work, pay costs of £85, a victim surcharge of £30 and to attend rehabilitation activity. Continue reading Rye Man Sent to Prison

Detectives continue to investigate the death of the man in St Leonards

 

Detectives continue to investigate the death of a man at a block of flats in St Leonards.

Emergency services were called to Marine Court on Marina in St Leonards at around 9am on Monday (March 13) to a report a man had fallen from a flat. A 93-year-old man was sadly declared dead at the scene. His death is being treated as unexplained at this stage and one man, a 54-year-old from St Leonards, who is known to the victim, was arrested on suspicion of murder. Two sentenced to five years for Hastings street attack

Two 21-year old men have each been sentenced to five years imprisonment for a vicious late night street attack in Hastings town centre two years ago.

Conor Hodge (pictured left), unemployed, of Priory Road, Hastings, and Jason Easton (pictured right), a student, of Lullington Close, Bexhill, were sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on Thursday 3 March having been convicted of grievous bodily harm, at the same court on 16 January. Inspector arrested in IPCC investigation
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is currently carrying out an independent investigation into an Inspector arrested for misconduct in a public office. He has been suspended while an investigation is carried out.

The Inspector, based at Brighton, was arrested on Thursday (March 2) as part of the IPCC investigation. Allegations were referred to the IPCC that he has had improper sexual relationships with women in the course of his duties.

Four men have been arrested after a violent incident at a flat in Bexhill.

At about 4.25pm on Saturday (25 February) two men, aged 29 and 23, were attacked at a flat in London Road, Bexhill, by several men who entered, one of whom was holding what appeared to be firearm of some kind.

Hastings Men Charged with Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent

Two men charged in connection with Hastings pub attack

Two men have been charged in connection with an incident outside The Carlisle public house in Pelham Street, Hastings, in which a local man was attacked shortly before midnight on 20 February last year. The victim suffered significant injuries to his eyes leaving him blinded. The victim has endured a number of operations at the specialist eye hospital in Brighton who have been able to provide him with hope.

Matthew Barnes, 46, of Victoria Avenue, Hastings, has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.

Police urge car owners in Hastings to be security conscious

Recent thefts from cars in the Hastings area have prompted police to ask owners to be vigilant.

Thieves have struck overnight during the past week. Sergeant Vikkie Ambrose, of the Hastings Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Car owners are advised to be wary and ensure their vehicles are adequately secured.
