Sitting In With G.R.I.P.P.

G.R.I.P.P (Give Rye it’s Proper Policing) invited me to sit in on their meeting at the beginning of the month.

Their reaction to the new initiative by the police to crack down on the local vandals was treated with some contempt in view of the new Gungarden damage and graffiti attacks on the Post Office and other areas in the town that had taken place since the promises were made by District Commander Chief Inspector Brian Mathews. The Spring Month

April a real spring month, one quarter of the way through the year. Summer has got a grip on winter. Snow can be expected any day in April. Lambing is under way on the Marsh although the farmers with sheltered sheep have lambed indoors and the lambs are rapidly growing for the early market. If April is warm we can expect our first swarm of bees in the latter weeks. The bees have come through winter well this year., their numbers have been swelling every day since January. Joe Schlesinger of the famed Canadian Broadcasting Company programme ‘Newsworld’ was at the Rye’s Own Office on Saturday 22 February to interview Editor Jim Hollands and Copy Reader Jo’ Vincent about their views on the situation regarding Iraq.
