132 Riders Enjoy a day in the sun

 

One Hundred and Thirty-Two riders set out from the Rye Club in Market Road in the Rye & Winchelsea Rotary 100k 2017  Tour of the Marshes.

There were shorter distance rides for for youngsters and the less adventurous. Most riders choose the longer distance.

Eric Bourne is one of Rye’s present day characters. He is as well known in Rye as his father and grandfather before him. One of the toughest business men in the town for many years, he, with the help of brother Roy, transformed the four vehicle removal company into the massive International Movers, employing over 100 people, that it is today. Town Crier’s Starting Bell

When I Ring my Bell ………

Rye Town Crier, Rex Swain, uttered the immortal words “When I ring my bell, peddle like hell” and 83 cyclists set of on a ride that took them through the winding back lanes of kent to Hythe.

On the way the course was brilliantly sign posted and Marshalled by members of the Rye & District Rotary Club and ‘Noel’s Snack Bar’ was set up in its traditional place on the intersection at Old Romney, where riders enjoyed complimentary biscuits and bananas. Good Weather, Good Fun, Great Event Rye buzzed to the sound of hundreds of cogs and wheels as the 7th Fun Cycle Challenge started recently in the town and sped across the Marsh to Hythe.
