Town Crier’s Starting Bell

When I Ring my Bell ………

Rye Town Crier, Rex Swain, uttered the immortal words “When I ring my bell, peddle like hell” and 83 cyclists set of on a ride that took them through the winding back lanes of kent to Hythe.

On the way the course was brilliantly sign posted and Marshalled by members of the Rye & District Rotary Club and ‘Noel’s Snack Bar’ was set up in its traditional place on the intersection at Old Romney, where riders enjoyed complimentary biscuits and bananas.

Then it was on to Hythe, through more narrow lanes where traffic is almost non existent and another number check and more refreshments if desired at the Railway Cafe.

The ride back to Rye, against the westerly breeze was tougher, but rain held off and there were no wet shirts to spoil an excellent day.
