Jimper’s Jottings

November rarely saw the first of the winter winds and rain, bonfire night in Rye was lucky as we had a five hour window of dry weather. With the celebrations over the rain fell from the sky in torrents and the wind rose to storm force. Few Continue reading Jimper’s Jottings December 2008

Jimper’s Jottings

By Jimper’s Jottings.

The editor asked readers to identify the mammal in the photograph. I have studied the picture and am sure it is a common rabbit. I believe I am more qualified than a lot of Council bureaucrats that know nothing unless it suits them. Continue reading Jimper’s Jottings

The Birdman of Rye

 By Jo’ Vincent

I have swallows nesting in my porch this year which was quite a surprise to me as usually they choose the eaves of a barn, under a bridge, or an old shed to nest. Mind you our porch is in need of a face lift but I did’nt think it was dilapidated enough for these amazing birds to choose as their Winter home but they did and have built an immaculate nest made of layers of mud, feathers, and bits of straw. How to Trace a Water Leak – the Rother Way

THINGS LONG AGO

Once on Romney Marsh not so long ago, it was a very unhealthy place to live. There was a dreaded thing that was called the Ague, a disease we now know was a type of malaria, caused by the mosquito which lived in the water that covered a lot of the flat land. The local remedy for the Ague was said to be to swallow a spider, whole, wrapped up in its own web. The sheer thought of doing so must have made many people suddenly recover from the illness rather than take the cure! Continue reading Jimper’s Jottings

Horse & Cart

By Arthur Woodgate Once again I am entering the world of fantasy mixed with a few points of fact. Basically my semi fable is centred round the junction of School Lane and Main Street, Peasmarsh, but unlike so many people today, I hope to move on through the main structure of my story to its completion.
