Rye Town Amateur Boxing Club are now affiliated with the Amateur Boxing Association of England and will be competing across the UK as early as November.
Rye Town Boxers have worked arduously over the past nine months taking part in numerous community events such as; T.G.R.A’s/Rye Partnerships Diamond Jubilee celebrations and Rother Voluntary Actions Mini-Olympics Day both of which were hosted at Tilling Green Community Centre, they also placed a team of 10 in the Hastings Half Marathon back in March where the team not only ran the 13.1 mile course (said to be the hardest in England) they ran it by way of a military style stretcher race with 40kg of sandbags placed on the stretcher, completing the course in an amazing time of 2hours 16mins giving them the third place on the podium at the prize giving ceremony.
Rye Town Amateur Boxing Clubs Head Coach Carl Turner says “The progressions that our team have made since the first training session on January 17th this year are nothing short of amazing, we emphasise on every single training session the importance of mastering each and every essential boxing drill before moving to the next allowing each boxer to progress at their own pace, this ensures that the boxer has all the skills required to be able to safely and effectively compete, it also allows the coaching team to learn each individuals strengths and weaknesses which in turn allows us to bring the best out of each member of our team. We have now introduced a banding system which will help the coaching team spend more essential time with our boxers as they progress through their journey towards the competitive boxing team. The new banding system also allows us to take on more members so those of you who are interested in joining our team then come along to one of our training sessions that are held at Rye Boys Club, Mermaid St, Rye on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 1900 to 2100 and Saturday mornings from 10 till 1200.”
Rye Town Amateur Boxing Club hosted community fitness classes at Tilling Green Community Centre for a period of six weeks during their off-season giving anyone interested in boxing or fitness the opportunity to take part in their now renowned training sessions, Turner says “The classes that we hosted at Tilling Green Community Centre were put in place due to the need for our members to maintain their fitness and skill levels that they have developed over the past nine months ensuring they are ready for Rye’s first ever competitive season, it was also an opportunity to give anybody with an interest in our sport or fitness the chance to join our team an get an insight into how we work, the classes are now permanent and are run every Saturday morning at the Boxing Club, they are open to anyone wishing to join, there is also a banding system in place for these classes ensuring that all that attend work within their current abilities with steady but strong progressions, this class of course is non-contact, it is simply a circuit training class based on a boxers training techniques which is extremely effective for various individual goals. We are a non-profit sports club and our entire coaching team work completely voluntarily. All cash raised through these classes will help to cover the cost of Rye Town ABC’s yearly overheads. I would like to say thank you to Tilling Green Community Centre for allowing us to host our classes at your venue, the classes were a success and the atmosphere was fantastic, we will certainly use your centre again”
