One of the Best Town Crier’s in the Land
Last month Rye Town Crier Rex Swain was featured on the cover of “Rye’s Own”. Since he became Town Crier, Rex has gained in fame and popularity. He must be the most photographed man in the town.
These pictures were taken at the 2003 Golden Jubilee celebrations where, as well as shouting all the various announcements he danced a jig and sang to the big crowd that jostled in the sun for a good place to watch the entertainment.
Eventually Rex burst out in poetry, reciting “The Bricklayer’s Story” to a delighted audience.
Rex must surely rate as one of, if not the best, Town Crier that Rye has ever seen.
