September 2012 saw the opening of a new 1500 sq. ft. myCostcutter forecourt shop for Skinners of Rye, Owner Gary Barlow is delighted with the positive effect the development is having on his business.
He told Ryes Own: “Before the development, we had a small 500 sq.ft. shop next to our car showroom. With more and more car sales now taking place via the internet and shop income becoming more important to forecourts, a decision was taken to reduce showroom space and launch a well recognised branded shop. We relocated the car sales just down the road at Monkbretton Bridge.
“I spoke to several potential suppliers but with a recommendation from Malcolm Smith my Murco Business Development Manager, Costcutter was chosen. Their myCostcutter fascia delivers a premium brand experience. Our new store format introduces vibrant black, red and green colourways, layouts and textured finishes throughout the store which combine to create a high end shopping environment.
We have employed eight more people locally and now offer the local residents somewhere to shop on a Sunday as before there was nothing in Rye.
“Looking back, Costcutter were the right choice. They were professional throughout, offered great support and were full of advice drawn from their other activities in the forecourt sector.
“The total development including initial stocking has cost around £200,000 but, thankfully, shop sales are already showing a 300% increase over pre-development figures. We have also employed eight more people locally and now offer the local residents somewhere to shop on a Sunday as before there was nothing in Rye.
“As far as the local community is concerned, this development could not have come at a better time. One local forecourt has recently closed and another local retailer is not open on a Sunday. We are therefore reaping the benefits and in addition to our boosted shop income, fuel sales have also increased by some 50%.
” Skinners mycostcutter shop is open from 6am to 10pm, seven days a week. Their staff are there to offer customers an excellent range of groceries, hot food, ‘bean to cup’ coffee, Lottery, newspapers and magazines, a free cash machine and a well equipped off licence.
“Rye’s Own” wish Gary and myCostcutter continued success in the future.
