Sunday 22 May is an important date for those interested in beautiful gardens. Four of Rye’s very best will be open to the public for this year’s Rye Garden Safari.
Ferry Cottage, Rock Channel, Lamb House West Street, 4 Mermaid Street and Number Eleven High Street will all be throwing their garden gates open between 12 noon and 5pm.
Town Crier, Rex Swain will be taking the Safari route adding even more colour to the occassion, starting at Ferry Cottage he will brodcast the message to the populace that the Safari is now open. His journey will take him through the High Street, no doubt pointing out Number Eleven in his dulcet tones as he passes. His journey will end at the corner of Mermaid Street and West Street, close to the other two gardens where he may even sneak into 4 Mermaid Street to enjoy the music of the Iris Sckillit Group.
Volunteer fund raising organiser Sandra Pawsey and her helpers do a fantastic job arranging the event. All proceeds go to St Michael’s Hospice where specialist palliative care is provided for the people of Rye, Hastings and Rother areas.
