Fair Trade Fortnight

Jempsons of Peasmarsh will be fully supporting FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT to be held this year from 26th February to 11th March. The Jempson/Budgens stores in Rye, Hawkhurst and Battle will also specially promote their ranges of FAIRTRADE products. Jempsons in-store cafe at Peasmarsh and their coffee shops in Rye, Hastings and Battle will lend their weight to the campaign by offering FAIRTRADE coffees and cookies.

Stephen Jempson said

‘We have played a part in the Fairtrade Foundation’s success since it was launched in 2004. The product range features premium quality foods and drinks at fair prices. Our customers have encouraged us to steadily increase the range that we stock and they share our commitment to do all we can to help protect the environment and to give growers in the developing world a fair price for their products’.

Andrew Jempson added ‘We fully endorse the Fairtrade Charter. A part of our ‘go-green’ policy is to offer long-life bags made from jute. We have sold thousands over the last couple of years and this had led to a massive reduction in the use of throwaway plastic carrier bags. While we certainly endorse the aims of FAIRTRADE we have to select products on their merits and their competitiveness. In the case of FAIRTRADE, there is no conflict. It’s a win-win situation’.

All the stores in the Jempsons group will allocate exclusive space for the display and promotion of FAIRTRADE packaged products and will highlight the fresh produce in the Market Hall at Peasmarsh and the appropriate sections of the other stores. FAIRTRADE has recently introduced a range of high quality, keenly priced wines. These too will be given prominence.
