Election Day

Today is Election Day

This is probably the most open election held in this country since the early 1900s. No one seems to have a clue as to the outcome. Every single vote in every single constituency will count this time.

Many newspapers and magazines, even television companies are biased toward one political party or another – some even tell their readers which way to vote.

Today is Election Day – Rye’s Own would not dream of telling readers which way to vote – We have never accepted an election advert since we first published 50 years ago.

But we do, and always have, urged readers to use their vote – it is precious despite the scandals, corruption and expense fiddles that have been uncovered over the years since the Freedom of Information Act came into being. After all it was our Parliament that voted in the Act so the majority of MPs must have had nothing to hide.

There are good and bad people in all walks of life, so when you cast your vote it might be best to go for the person, not the party. After all, that person will be YOUR representative. If you agree with their promises and TRUST them and believe they are HONEST then cast your vote. A good man or woman at Westminster can do so much towards local advancement,

So whatever the weather, turn out and vote, many good men and women gave everything for the freedom that we enjoy. On this Day, seventy years ago, we celebrated Victory over Europe and Winston Churchill joined the Royal Family on the Balcony at Buckingham Palace where thousands of happy people congregated to Cheer and Sing and even dance in the streets.

Don’t waste your vote. If you do not vote you should not complain.
