This year Rye is “Wild” about Boar!
Already 16 venues in and around Rye in East Sussex have confirmed their intent to showcase Wild Boar and medieval dishes on their menus, many of which have already submitted their menus and can be found on the website wildboar.org.uk.
This year there really is more than boar! The organisers have encouraged venues to put on events during the week and here are some of the treats they have in store …
To kick off the festival with a bang on Friday 26th October, the extremely popular 1066 Rockitmen will be performing at the Ypres Castle Inn for a Wild Boar Halloween Party. There will be a hog roast and optional fancy dress!
Meanwhile the River Haven Hotel are hosting a fabulous four course dinner and cabaret evening with a Rod Stewart Tribute.
Throughout the week, the Swann Gallery in Mermaid Street will be holding an exhibition of art on a Wild Boar theme by local artists including Andrew Blyth, Laura Oakes, Priscilla Ryan and John Izod.
To enjoy a Wild Boar Sunday lunch with Jazz from Sarah-Jane Hassel and Roger Lewin, head to the Beach Bistro at the Gallivant Hotel in Camber on the 28th October or the 4th November.
The Standard Inn are to hold three events; Irish Folk music from Phil Trainor, a Wild Boar Quiz Night and a Bingo Night during which you can sample their Wild Boar Stew which will be served all week.
If you’d like to buy some Wild Boar to cook yourself, don’t miss the Rye and Brede Farmers’ Markets or head to Sutton’s at Winchelsea Beach. Details available Page Seven on the website wildboar.org.uk where you can already find dishes from venues’ menus including The Ambrette, The Ship Inn, Mermaid Corner Tearooms, The Mermaid Inn, The Monastery and Edith’s House.
If that wasn’t enough, the Old Dairy Brewery are going to produce a special batch of their Wild Hop ale just for Wild Boar Week which will be available all over Rye during the event.
“We are absolutely delighted with the enthusiasm that venues have shown for Wild Boar Week this year,” commented organiser Oliver Campion, “With an extremely limited budget to promote the event, we would like to extend thanks to all those taking part along with support from Adams of Rye, CID Property and 1066 Country Marketing, without whom this would not be possible!”
