Two of the best loved characters from East Sussex and Kent can often be seen together on ceremonial occasions in any Cinque Port Town.
Andy Mullen, engineer at the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway and re-enactment enthusiast with the Cinque Ports Volunteers and Rye’s Town Crier, Rex Swain stand on the steps at Rye Town Hall to herald the new Mayor of Rye on Mayoring Day.
Rex, who has lived in Rye all his life, was a member of the team that built the Dungeness Lighthouse. He has many other claims to fame including being one of the star members of the Rye Aces Cycle Speedway Team.
