Royal Horticultural Society Banksian Medal Won by Lorna Hall
On Saturday 5th September, the Community Centre was once again the venue for Rye’s Annual Flower and Vegetable show. This year’s event attracted over 200 entries and despite the challenging weather conditions the gardeners of Rye and surrounding area put on a great show. The cookery classes were well supported and entries in the photography and handicraft sections were very impressive.
Nigel Jennings won the Vegetable and Fruit and Flower and foliage categories and for the second year in succession, won the Turk Trophy for the highest place points in the horticultural sections. His entries included a massive pumpkin which weighed in at 56lbs. (Pictures can be enlarged)
Lorna Hall won the Royal Horticultural Society Banksian Medal. The winner in cookery was Tom Watson . Toni Watson won the handicraft category and Kevin Hall the photography. George Taylor won the children’s competition with his decorated paper plate.
Rye’s Mayor, Cllr Bernardine Fiddimoreattended the event and presented the prizes and certificates.
The ladies of the Landgate W.I. provided welcome refreshments
Show organiser, Helena Hudd said ‘I am delighted with the turn out, it’s really good that so many people support it year after year. My thanks to all the local businesseswho support us by placing adverts in our show schedule and provide sponsorship for the categories. My thanks too to the members of Rye Allotments Association for their help in stewarding and running the tombola and to the ladies of Landgate W.I who provided delicious refreshments.
