Sylvia Hewitt Nee’ Sperring from Oragon USA who went to school in Rye and still has many friends here was a proud lady when her Grandson Rob Neal was accepted into the US Air Force Academy by no less a person than President Obama recently – Sylvia writes .
“Charlie, Rob and Danny are grandsons from my marriage to Chuck and I am so proud of them for what they have accomplished. A sister Laura, who is Danny’s twin, is training to be a nurse, at San Jose University. The boys after their respective high-school graduations. were all accepted into the Air-Force Academy, in Colorado. Charlie graduated from there two years ago and is at Iowa, in the engineering / drone program. Rob, who graduated this past May, is going to flight school in Oklahoma to train to be a pilot.. Danny has one more year to go and I do not think his mind is quite made up yet as to where he wants to go. The Graduation Ceremony was quite a spectacular. Security was high as the President gave the commencement speech and he shook hands with all 1075 of the class. Thunderbirds did a fly over and then put on a wonderful air-show. The Academy sits on 18000 acres, and has venues for every sport one can think of.. It was truly a wonderful 4 days that I spent with the family”.
