The last race of the 2013 season came at the end of October. The Hastings C C / Rye & District Wheelers Hill Climb on Battery Hill, Fairlight is a test only undertaken by the fittest members of each club. It is an individual and team event. Hastings ran out the winners of the team event and Rye’s Nick Wilson was the overall fastest rider on the day, taking the individual honours. For the Rye riders it was also their Club Championships. Nick Wilson, Steve Gooch and Barry Goodsell were first three in the men’s, Rebecca Wilson was Rye’s Champion lady and James Fosbery is the new Rye Wheelers Junior Hill Climb Champion. Stuart Hodd, Ollie Chapman and Dan Henchy were the top men from Hastings & St. Leonards Cycling Club and with Malcolm Daly and Joe Jenner, had a combined time of 26.39 just 40 seconds better than Rye’s best five man total. The Rye team was made up of Nick Wilson, Steve Gooch, Barry Goodsell, Mark Fosbery and James Fosbery. Other riders deserving a mention for completing the difficult climb are Nigel Tamplin, Marcus Machell, Metin Alsanjak, Nick Sargant and Ian Reeve from Hastings and Richard Suthers, Dave Yarranca and Darren Wall from the Rye & District Wheelers.
