Editorial

By the time this issue gets to the newsagents, Easter will have come and gone. This year seems to be flying past. So much is going on in the World.

The Cinque Ports were very much involved with national maritime affairs in the days of the Cinque Ports Fleet, which was to all effect, the English Navy in medieval times. Now, save for the frantic cross channel activities of the Port of Dover, the rest of the Cinque Ports and the two Ancient Towns rely for their prosperity, in great part, on visitors and holiday makers.

Because terrorism has cast it’s evil shadow over so many traditional holiday destinations and the airport delay problems experienced by many British holiday makers over the past three year, it seems an even greater number are planning to holiday at home in 2016.

This could be good news for the Cinque Ports holiday towns bringing business and greater seasonal employment to hard pressed areas.

This is the seventh issue of “Cinque Ports”- Many readers have asked where they can get back numbers of issues they have missed – If you get your copy from a newsagent just email your name, the numbers of the issues you want and the newsagents name to jim@rye’sown- .co.uk and we will deliver to that newsagent at the end of the month when we deliver the new magazines. You can then pay the newsagent the face value of the magazines you order without worrying about postage.

Alternatively you can order back copies direct from Cinque Ports Subscription Dept, Guinea Hall Lodge, Main Road, Sellindge TN25 6EG. Send a cheque for £4.18p inland per copy or £6.84 per copy overseas.

We are looking for more writers, photographers and artists in the Cinque Ports area. Articles, manuscripts, photographs and drawings with a Cinque Ports flavour are very welcome, especially from Dover, Deal and Ramsgate. We cannot make payments for your work but always include a byline with any item we use and will also publicise author’s books and artist’s exhibitions etc.
