The sun blazed down on Lydd on 16th June when a large crowd turned up to spend the day watching the annual festivities. The Band of the Royal Marines was there, and by way of contrast the Willington Majorettes gave a stirring display.
There were Fancy Dress Competitions, and many lively floats for the procession.
Thrills came with an amazing demonstration by dare devil motorcyclist Kathy Connors. Nothing could stop her. Would you like to ride on a motorbike through a plate glass window? Kathy doesn’t mind a bit. In our picture she is seen in one of her most spectacular exploits, riding through the ring of blazing fire. Here’s a new way Kathy Connors is hot stuff on a motor bike to keep Death off the Roads.
But the climax of the day was when Miss Carol Burgin, Lydd’s 1972 Queen placed the crown on her successor for 1973, attractive Sandra Finn. Sandra was attended by Stephanie Rugg and Lorraine Mardle as Maids of Honour, with two pages in Court dress.
Lydd’s Mayor, Councillor Alan Burrage, looked on proudly at the crowning ceremony.
