Three burglaries in Rye – Man Arrested

Police are appealing for witnesses following three burglaries in Rye between midday and 4pm on Thursday 12 May. Two of the offences were in Udimore Road and the other was in Cooper Road.
Entry was gained through the rear of all the addresses and at two of them glass in the back door was smashed.
Various items were stolen from the addresses including a men’s Rolex watch with a silver bracelet and blue face, a pair of men’s Hugo Boss blue jeans, several pairs of cufflinks including a gold aeroplane pair, and a gold baby bracelet with orange beads
A Browning 525 shotgun and a Lanber Sporter shotgun were also stolen, from one of the Udimore Road addresees, but both have been recovered as a result of police enquiries.
Detective Constable Alex Campbell from the East Sussex Priority Crime Team said “I would like to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Rye area on that Thursday, and in particular anyone who was in Udimore Road between 2pm and 3pm, and who may have a dashboard camera in their vehicle. It is a particularly busy road and many people have camera’s in their vehicles nowadays. These may have caught something of interest for this investigation and if so I would be grateful to hear from you.
“We also remind people to report anything suspicious to police, and to keep an eye out for the stolen property in this case.”

A 56-year old man was arrested on Sunday (15 May) near Staines in Surrey on suspicion of burglary and unlawful possession of the shotguns whch were recovered then. He has been bailed until 25 May while enquiries continue.
