Katy Alexander is Rye’s New Lady Cycling Star of the New Era
Katy Alexander joined the Rye Wheelers towards the end of the 2004 racing season. Her efforts that year cut Roma Page’s Ladies “10” record by 51 seconds to 30-02. She also established a Ladies “15” record of 46-31 in the last event of the year.
At the start of 2005, on New Years Day, Katy took the “10” record under thirty minutes with a ride of 29-27. This won her a prize in the best personal best improvement section of the event.
Katy turned her attention to the “25” record and on a cold, windy day in the Fens she rode the Ely “25” and clipped 2 minutes 7 seconds from Roma Page’s record that had stood since 1957.
Then, back on local courses miles from her success in the Ely “25”, Katy reduced the “10” record again in the Southborough Wheelers “10” in March to 28-22, over one minutes improvement. She just had time to chip another three and a half minutes off the “25” record (1-16-49) in the K.C.A. “25” on the 17 April before returning to Cambridge University to complete her Veterinary Diploma.
Katy passed her exams with flying colours and is now a fully qualified Vetinary Practitioner working in Newmarket where she has made her home. The Wheelers hope to see her again when she visits her parents and hope she is able to ride in a few events when she is this way. All the best Katy, you are much missed by all those in the Club that had the pleasure of riding and racing with you.
