Buying at Auction These lantern slides, just a sample from the 40 that were included in the lot, demonstrate that there are bargains to be had at any auction sale. The hand painted slides were knocked down for £30 at a recent sale at Rye Auction Galleries, just a fraction of what they might have fetched. In the same sale, an Act of Parliament (Tavern) clock was sold for £8,200, more than double its predicted price.
The sst depicts the British Navy and other foreign Naval and Army personal at war in the 1890’s.
The scene on London Bridge was also part of the set. This slide alone is worth more to a collector than the price paid for the whole set.
The moral of this story is, don’t miss even one of Rye Auction Galleries weekly sales at their new galleries. View the lots well the day before the auction, there are serious bargains for the careful buyer every week.
