Rye Lions First Lady

Rye & District Lions Club which was founded in 1976 inducted their first lady member, Gill McGannan, at their April meeting. Gill is the National Strategy Science Consultant for Kent County Council and lives in Rye. Although the Club is now in its thirty-second year, it has until now been an all male group. This was not by choice, as the majority of Lions clubs have a mix of both men and women and many local clubs have, or have had, women Presidents and the Zone Chairman, which covers East Sussex, is a lady member of Hastings Lions Club.

In welcoming Gill to the Club, Bill Coleman, Rye & District Lions President, said how pleased the Club was to welcome her and that he hoped Gill joining as a “pioneer” lady member would now encourage other local ladies to join the Club. In fact at that meeting two new potential members attended for the first time – and one was also a lady. If any adult is interested in learning more about how the Lions have fun, whilst raising money for good causes, and also would enjoy the socials that the Lions organise, they can be contacted on 0845 833 2825.Lady
