Fire appliances rushed to Guestling this evening when fire broke out at Buckswood School.

The fire service quickly had the blaze under control but three classrooms were badly damaged.

A press release from the school late this evening stated

“There has been a fire incident at school this evening thought to have been caused by building works being carried out during the school holidays.

No one has been hurt and three class rooms have been affected.

Broomham Hall (main house) has not been affected and there will be school as usual on Monday with provision being made for the three affected class rooms, so there will be no interruption to any scholars’ education.

We would like to thank the fire service for their rapid response to the incident and everyone who has sent messages of good will.”

Firefighters from Rye with two appliances joined eight other engines from the East Sussex Fire Service. Police and Paramedics were were also on the scene. The alarm was sounded shortly after 6pm.
