Carl is Rye’s King of Swing

Rye man Carl Spencer and his famous Nighthawks Orchestra have become known in the music industry as ‘Kings of Swing’. Their versatile music stems from the days of Spencer’s Washboard Kings of the sixties and
early seventies.

The Nighthawks Orchestra features some of the UK’s finest players of the diverse styles emanating from the early roots of Ethnic Blues & Ragtime, through New Orleans, the great Jazz-Age Bands and Orchestras of the 1920’s, and on to them Swing-style developments of the ‘30’s. This vibrant music is sensationally brought to life through the Nighthawks’
outstanding arrangements and inspirational soloists.

Whether it be for Concerts, Dances, Weddings, Social Events, Corporate Functions, Festivals, or their educational “History of Jazz & Popular Music” programme, the Nighthawks bring first class jazz-based music in a captivating and entertaining manner, played with their characteristic ebullience and vitality.
