Tilling Green Residents Association

Following on from last years successful Bonfire night event at the Tilling Green community centre, TGRA events committee, Rye Town Amateur Boxing Club and invited guests will be kicking off this years Rye Bonfire night celebration at the Tilling Green community centre. Tilling Green being the starting point for this famous annual event.

Everyone is welcome at the centre, the café will be open, offering hot food and drinks, sit in or take away. The centre acts as a meeting place for groups taking part in the procession, which generates a great atmosphere for the start of this night’s celebrations. Come along and join us from 5pm until procession leaves the estate around 7pm. Rye’s Bonfire Night is on 9th November.

Just a reminder that our Annual General Meeting will be on the 23rd October at 7pm . Come along to see how the committee works for you, look at the audited accounts and even volunteer to be on the committee yourself. We need some more younger people.

                  Rye Town Amateur Boxing Club

After a very successful Open Air Boxing Show and Fun Day on Tilling Green Community Centre’s Field, In which Smiley Faces Events Hire used a lot of their events hire equipment such as Bouncy Castles, Sumo Suits, Candy Floss, Popcorn, Hot dog and Nachos Machines to raise funds for the Non-Profit Amateur Sports Club, raising over £1000 in total, Rye Town Boxing Club is now set to smash their way into the 2012/2013 Competitive Season, the show even had a celebrity referee by way of Former WBU Light MiddleWeight Champion of the World, Wayne Alexander.

Head Coach Carl Turner says, “Our boxers put on an amazing feat of mental and physical strength throughout the boxing show and all in attendance got to see the amazing skills our members have gained during their time with us, to say the least it was one of my proudest moments to date watching them fly our flag as well as they did, we couldn’t have asked any more from them, they’re amazing. I’d like to say a massive thank you to all those that attended the event and supported our members and the club, we hope to run that kind of event 2 to 3 times per year as well as fully competitive home shows”

Rye Town Boxing Club run a variety of different classes that suit all ages and abilities: Little Rockies 4 to 8 year old activity class, Female ONLY Boxercise, Competitive Junior Boxing and Competitive Senior Boxing.

                     Rye Hosts The Discovery Award A.G.M

The discovery award England held its AGM at the new St Mary’s Centre in Rye over the weekend of 30th August to the 1st September. The discovery award was introduced by Laurie Young who was concerned with the attitude of employers towards the over 50s. Laurie was a co-ordinator for the Duke of Edinburgh award and the Discovery Award is structured in exactly the same way challenging the over 50s to take on activities within four categories. i.e Service to others, taking up a new hobby, physical pursuit and a journey.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the gold award to Janet King, Margaret Garrad, Gill Proctor all from Hastings and Jennifer Caster from Rye by Rye’s Deputy Mayor Cllr. Bernie Fiddemore.

   LINE DANCING CLASSES

The new evening class is on Wednesdays at Rye Boys club in Mermaid street, Rye, at 7.15 – 8.45 pm. All are welcome. The Line dance at Tilling Green on Friday mornings 10.15 – 11.45 am is still going well and newcomers are welcome to join us. We have been involved in lots of demonstrations this summer, the Tilling Green fete, Beckley school fete, Northiam fete and Sue Ryders 60th Birthday fund raiser in Rye. These went really well and I would like to Thanks all who came along and joined in.
