The Rotary Club Of Rye & Winchelsea

There is good news in Beckley as the Guide Company, that had to close last year has opened again. Two first class young women have come forward and taken on the task of rebuilding the Company.

They are well qualified for the job as they already run the Brownies and have built up the Pack to a very creditable 25 members. It was of great concern to them that when the Brownies reach Guide age there was no Guide Company for them to move on to and they would be lost the movement.

Additional leaders could not be found so they took on the task themselves. That quality of commitment is the backbone of the Scout and Guide movements and they are to be congratulated for it.

Rye & Winchelsea Rotary Club has a long history of supporting Scouting in the area so when they heard of the new Guide Company and that it had opened with no financial support they were happy to assist by making a donation to the funds.

The photograph shows the Brownies with their leaders being presented with the cheque by the President of the Rotary Club, Colin Baker.

The Rotary Club has a serious interest in supporting voluntary youth organisations in the Rye & Winchelsea area so if you are involved in such an organisation and you feel Rotary may be able to assist you then contact Chris Fairman, Youth Service Chairman at [email protected]

If you have a daughter who is interested in joining the Brownies or the Guides or if you feel you could help by becoming a leader then contact Girlguiding.org.uk They will put you in touch with your local group.

The Rotary Club is promoting its annual Charity walk on the 18th May which gives voluntary organisations the opportunity to raise much needed funds by having its members sponsored to take part.

The major part of the sponsorship raised by the participants goes to their own organisation. In other words it is an easy way of raising funds without the bother of having to organise the event. A group leaders delight!

The funds which the Rotary Club retain will be donated to the Memorial Hospital at Rye and St Michael’s Hospice.
