Appeal for witnesses to serious collision in Winchelsea

Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a car in Monks Walk, Winchelsea, at midday on Sunday (7 August).

A Mazda 6 car was in collision with a Kawazaki motorbike being driven by a 21-year-old man from Rye who suffered serious injuries. He was flown to St George’s Hospital Tooting where he is in a critical but stable condition. His pillion passenger, a woman aged 21 from Hastings was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with serious leg injuries.

The car driver, a 79-year-old Hastings man, was uninjured.

Sergeant Sarah Porter said: “We are appealing for anyone who either saw the collision or believe they saw either of the vehicles being driven before the collision to contact us.”

The Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance is about to replace its oldest helicopter with a more modern MD902 Explorer helicopter which is capable of conducting night operations, with the intention of commencing a two year trial on the most effective way of delivering night Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) in the region.
