Deans Rag Book Company were toy makers in Rye from the fifties to the seventies. They produced many varieties of soft toys and also their famous Rag Books for children which are famous all over the world.
Deans employed a large work force at their premises in Tower Street (the old Wright & Pankhurst building) It was a sad day for Rye when the Deans operation moved to South Wales.
The picture shows some uncut rag pages ready to be made up into books.
