Arthur’s Thank You

Arthur Woodgate, who died yesterday gave me this letter on 22 July 2009 and  made me promise to publish it to thank everyone at Rye Memorial Care Centre for looking after him so well.

I know Arthur had many happy times at the hospital where he spent most of the the last 10 years of his life and recorded his lifetime experiences for all of us to enjoy. He was a very special man and the people that kept him going through that period are special people too – Rye is lucky to have them.           Jim Hollands

To The Sister in charge at Rye Memorial Care Centre on the day I die!

If one knows he is about to die. Does he think out a way to say good bye?
To Those Dear Souls who have looked after him with lots of fun and laughter, even though he was a trial.

When right down in a vale to those fine folk, who on Rye Hill do more than just dish out a pill.
To those who cook to who clean to those who carry and those who tell us not to worry.
This building is in memory of by gone days. So if the dying man says remember those today. It’s thank you a lot and for now, goodbye.
